Why? Good question.

I've driven it for 160,000 over 6 1/2 years. Longest I've ever kept a car (I sold a 190E at 238,000). I'm thinking of buying a new (or much newer) vehicle with a warranty, and trading after 90K...

time has passed

Now the car has 243K, and I just added up what it cost me per mile since I bought it 6.5 years ago at 80K...$0.43 per mile. Seemed high, but maybe not so bad, considering the IRS uses $0.405 for...

No decision to make

I have a '92 500E, my third MB over 15 years. I have had 3 BMWs (3, 5 and 7-series, but no M5's), and my family has had both BMW and MB.

MB: heavier-feeling car, up to 1994 E-Class a very solid...

dealer = stealer?

In the latter part of December, I took my '92 500E (219K miles) in for a timing chain and rails, which eventually led to more work. The quote was a total of $3400, and my bill was $3900+, so I was...

timing chain

My '92 500E was chattering at startup from 190,000 until I had the chain and rails done at 218,000. I also had smoke out the tailpipe when I kicked it down on the highway, but assumed that was valve...

fuel filter leak

Thanks for the tip. My new Bosch filter had no washers included. I guess thats the problem with mail order parts. I will try the sanding idea right away. Hopefully, that will get me on the road.

Another related question. Do I replace the motor only, or the motor and fan(s)? There's quite a difference (+/- double, if the fans are included) in price for the parts.
