Just to add there is still a plan to go to carbs and get rid of the k jetronic.
Where I am there isn't really any enforcement on emissions or noise to really worry about.
Ongoing at the moment...

Mercedes is considered a luxury car here and on import attracts 328% tax....

If you want a suggestion to get the mixture set properly have google at Gunson Colortune. It allows you to see inside the chamber and adjust until you get a nice sky blue burn. Used to use one, well...

I reckon that heat to the manifold would not be required here. Coldest I've seen in this area is about 16'C and that was a couple of days in 20+ years. Normal range is 24 to high 30's all year....
