A bad injector is a possible culprit. If the knocking comes back, I'd try some Diesel Purge and if that doesn't help, it's probably time to pull those injectors and test them. It also never hurts...

Another way is to simply check the glow plug...

Another way is to simply check the glow plug resistance cold and once more right after glowing them. The resistance should be much higher when hot. This tests both for open and short circuit.
