I interpreted the problem thus: the drain tube (the one running from underneath the AC housing to the upper oil pan) wasn't mating up to the stub...

I didn't answer your first question...the tube from the valve cover is connected to a oil mist separator which then drains (via the loose tube) to the crankcase. The remaining blowby gasses are...
