It's 'Tourmaline Green', metallic, it's a blue/green (depending on the light)... not sure if that colour was available in the US with the 124.

A friend of mine has a w123 230ce in the same colour...

never been a problem for me, as the others say just go by feel... I don't ever look to see if it's in 'D' as I know by feel... it's gated so difficult to drop into 'N' accidently while driving, but...
