pull the wire that goes into the black cylinder. ...

pull the wire that goes into the black cylinder. the bulb is in there. an easy pull should get the bulb housing out. do not use "brute" force.

I just changed same bulb on my '95 e320.
using flat blade screw driver CAREFULLY pry the black plastic trim surrounding the shifter handle. if you have an uneven hand then use flat plastic instead...
