It is a puzzler; I have only pulled the lower pan but the screen on the oil pump is clean as the day it was first fired up and all appears pristine. The car overall seems to have been reasonably well...

Racking the brain for what could be leaking; what about the timing chain tensioner? seals - o-rings poosibly failed?

I feel that I have no choice but to drop the pan. Hoping to find a simple solution but have ordered the pump (pricey little 2 lb piece of iron). Figured it wouldn't hurt to replace it regardless;...

I also think it is lube related.

Pulled valve cover; adjusted valves while I was there, oil volume from supply tube appeared inadequate (wasn't quite reaching cam lobes at idle) Chiltens manual indicates problem may be oil pickup...

John Deere Plus-50 Supreme. Supposedly one of the best dino diesel oils out there. Have used it in all of our diesels for years, including my 190D for the past 100K +.
