As I've said about a dozen times, the 400E tank worked in my '87 190DT. If it fit the 190, it should fit the 300. Maybe you'd need to use the 602 lower hose.

You may need to clear some stuff out of the way...

You may need to clear some stuff out of the way to get to the clamps. On my 190DT, I had to remove the air cleaner assy and remove a few fasteners on the inner fender heat shield to get clearance....
