My 77 300d certainly behaved as if it had that...

My 77 300d certainly behaved as if it had that option. The auxilliary fan would come on, on a hot day, even if the AC was not turned on.

Should be a sensor to turn on the auxilliary fan...

Should be a sensor to turn on the auxilliary fan when AC is running. I think it's on the high pressure side somewhere.
It's also triggered by high coolant temperature.
