very helpful folks, thank you. there are 00 40 and 13 40 and though my '77 chassis calls for 00 40, it looks like the one which has now failed is 13 40, presumably because of my engine swap. i guess...

which manual throttle part has given up here?

something has come undone in my "throttle" mechanism and i can't tell yet which part is at fault, so i'd like some advice, please! the fat rubber buffer in front of the bracket on the firewall goes...
