For what it's worth, I pulled my driveshaft recently as part of doing a major under-car refresh (still working on it). Some folks have had luck with large slip-joint pliers on the driveshaft collar...

In Massachusetts, you'd be lucky to be in and out with plates in a half hour. 1-2 hours would be more likely, I think.

I really don't think there would be too much of a price differential between bedliner and the peel and stick stuff. But, it's been a while since I looked at the prices.
