Unless they're bad, I'd keep them on. If they are bad, unscrew the connectors & re-use them, just replacing the wire itself.

I'd agree that eliminating ignition points and trigger points would decrease service needed and increase reliability. Absolutely worth it if your vehicle goes on long trips or is a daily driver.

Your coil may have been replaced with a std blue coil vs the one these cars need. If that's the case then you won't have much, if any, spark with either a direct connection or with a working ignition...
