My '96 will do that with either the key in the lock or the infrared remote. However, that is a W210 and may not be exactly the same as your '93 W124. Try it and let us know.

Wah.
My 93 124.128 will only roll up all windows with the key. No auto roll down feature for me!

I wonder if Mercedes waited until the W210 to add auto-roll down?

On the '90-up 124: Hold the key in the lock position for 3seconds, then hold in the unlock position and the windows will roll down.
I also closed the sunroof from the tip-up position this way once (I never use the tip-up), when I unlocked the sunroof popped up again. Didn't expect it, not sure that it's normal.

That has not happened to me before, I can always close the sunroof but not open it with the auto unlock function w/ key.

I haven't checked the down feature with the moon roof previously open though. Once I get my fan clutch in I'll play with the moon roof and the auto open feature and see what happens.

Keyless sunroof closure
Here is my design for a simple circuit that will allow me to close the sunroof with one of the extra functions on the keyless lock system I added to my car awhile ago. The keyless receiver has an extra output that is suggested for a remote trunk release. It will work equally well on the sunroof.
![]() Only one wire needs to be run from under the back seat (where the keyless receiver lives, next to the door lock pump) to the trunk, where the sunroof motor is located. If you have located your remote receiver elsewhere, your wire path will be different but the intent is the same. Constant 12 volt power is available at the power antenna. One component is needed, a DPST relay. This will allow you to close the sunroof whether it is slid open or popped up -- the "close" signal is the same for both. ("W6" is the chassis ground for the power antenna and sunroof motors.) I looked at doing the same thing to close all of the windows. It can be done but requires many more relay contacts (2 sets per door) and lots of wiring. Similarly, if you have more remote functions, you could use one of them to open the sunroof or whatever. This function could also be done from the driver's door, using a key in the lock, but you would have to come up with a 5-second delay relay that would work on 12 volts. The ones I've seen in the surplus stores are always for 110 VAC. With that, you would hold the key in the "lock" position for more than 5 seconds, the delay would time out, and the sunroof (or whatever) would open or close or whatever you had wired it to do. [This is why the "convenience module" is so complicated -- there's a lot of stuff for it to do.] I'll post pictures of the installation after I find the right relay and get the circuit built. Jeremy

Correct relay
Found the right relay today, $5 at Pick and Pull in Windsor (No. Calif.). It is used in the 201 chassis (190E, etc.) and lives in the relay compartment at the rear of the fuse box in the engine compartment on the left (driver's) side. The Mercedes part number is 001 542 53 19.
According to EPC, this relay is used as follows: 123 Aux fan relay for 240D (USA) 1982-up 124 Aux fan relay for 230CE (Europe) 201 Aux fan relay for 190E 2.3 (USA) Many other listings are shown for various models and continents. Apparently the USA versions of the 124 do not use this relay but you should have many chances to get one from a 190D/E in your area rather than pay Mercedes $50 or whatever they want. The 123 FSM (CD-ROM version) does not show this kind of a relay for the 240D so we need to hear from a 240D owner: what is the part number of the aux fan relay (on the left wheel well) of your 1982-up 240D? The relay has six pins so a six-pin socket is needed. I'll re-do my diagram to fit the relay and post the revision and photos after it's installed. Jeremy

Windows still don't slightly open with the opening of the doors, though and I don't know what would be causing that to fail if in fact it is supposed to do it. (Other 300CE owners... Do you windows do this?) |

Something like this might be simpler than custom wiring and adopting late 124 relays and harness -

The flame thrower and hidden license plate kits look interesting but makes one wonder a little about the seller. The flip key/remote would be a lot less expensive than buying a factory replacement, providing you can get the right key blank and then find someone to cut it. Jeremy
