Is cruise amp same for all models - can I use 280E in 300D ?
Anybody know is the gasser Cruise AMps are different than the diesels ?
I have the early vacuum type actuator and 10 pin cruise amp. Have a chance to get a cruise amp from a gasser 280E. Part numbers are a little different. Will the gasser 280E part work ? Thanks.

Interchangeability of Cruise Amps
I didn't want to start a new thread for this, since so many on this topic are already going. But this info is so good that it needs to go somewhere.
I asked Peter at GDL whether the 300D cruise amp worked in a 300SD and this is the response I received... -------- That's an interesting question... about interchangeability. ... The amps will go one way and not the other. The W123's are a "universal acceptor." They can function with an amp from any car. However, the amps from the 123's (300D) will not work in any of the other cars. The 001 545 79 32 and 002 545 91 32 will work only in the 300D's. There is a unique amp for the underpowered 240D's as well - 002 545 32 32. It works only in that car. Everything else will work interchangeably - sort of. There's nothing you can hurt by swapping to see what happens. The reason that they won't always swap is the speed signal. The 123's have a mechanical speedometer and the speed signal is different from the hall effect sensor; the SD has an electronic speedometer. Bottom line: your 300D can use an amp from any other car. The SD can't use the 300D amp. ---------- The interesting part, as far as I see it, is that "There's nothing you can hurt by swapping to see what happens." Normal caveats apply, I'm assuming. I'd examine any amplifier guts first to see that the smoke is still inside all the parts before trying this. But you 300D folks should have a larger pool of parts to work with.
