I bought a parts car....well 1/2 of one
Well, it is finally home…..a friend of mine (who drives nothing newer than W123 and has a 1958 190 than is near perfect) and I went together on a parts car. It is a 1980 200D, yes it is a Euro spec. 200D. The under body is badly rotted and the engine is rusted tight due to the head being removed. I do not understand why the head was removed as the timing chain is al together. I was a little surprised to see such a low powered car with power steering and A/C. I wish the engine was together and ran. I would like to drive it to get a feel of the power (or lack of) of a 200D with a manual.
I would like to tell you the long painful tale of getting the car home, however, the tale is very, very long to tell the entire story. The P/O delivered it for us, but what an incredible jerk. He used a car dolly and did not have one side strapped down very well as when he pulled in my driveway one side came loose and the car ran forward up over the axle of the dolly. That became a civil engineering job for me to get the car off of the dolly. The P/O was of no help. And this is just the tip of the iceberg of the tale. Anyhow, I have many parts to gather. |

I had the same thing happen with a tow dolly and a Toyota 4runner. I was backing my parts truck into the storage area after I moved. Unbeknownst to me, my well meaning but mechanically retarded father-in-law had loosened up the straps on the front wheels. I turned it sharp, and the truck jumped over the front of the tow dolly. I just could not get the thing off it. I ended up having to call a tow truck to pick the front end up and get the dolly out. I feel your pain.
