560SL Side Markers and Turn Signals work together
Over the last few years I have read about having the side maker lamps flash as do the turn signals. After some research I found a diagram that I used to have this work. If you follow this link you will find step by step as well as photos to assist you. It takes about $20.00 in parts and a couple of hours to complete.
Thanks to our webmaster Bill Wood for taking my info and arranging it correctly |

Great Howto. I have added this task to my To Do list.
You can never have too many blinkin' lights. |

Hi, Please let me know if you complete this conversion.
I have had my SL for 5 years and have seen many inquiries as to how to do this and would really like to find out if you decide to do this. Also if I left anything out let me know . Thanks, Jack |

Ive done this conventionally on the 380 much like the instructions mentioned above, but on the 560, I was worried that overloading the turn signals mght hurt the "bulb out" convenience monitor, I did something tricky with diodes and relays so that the turn signal current load is almost the same.

The procedure has not had any effect on the Bulb Out Light in the Instrument Cluster. J.

I m moving back to Europe and I need to convert my lights to European standard, which means only flashing lights on the side markers... Any idea to do that. The procedure above leaves side markers as driving lights on top of flashing...
Thanks |

OK You need to tap into the (HOT) of the turn signa. run a new wire from that connection to the gray wire behind the low beam. 18GA (see Pic) That is on when the headlights are on. Cut the gray wire, tape the end that does not go to the lamp and connect the new wire to that same gray wire that goes to the side marker lamp. (both sides of car.) So what you are actually doing is disconnecting power to the side marker and introducing power from the turn signal.
Good Luck, Jack |

Thanks Jack, that's very clear. I had figured out the headlights but needed help for turn signals...
