info needed on 560sec widebody

I'm looking to buy an SEC widebody and was hoping some useful info from some of you more experienced. The one i'm looking at is an 89 560sec AMG Euro model. Overall the car looks good but needs some TLC. Is there a web site I can go to in order to find out if it really is a "real" AMG widebody? is there some sort of registry that I can look up? are there any specific things I should look out for in these cars? sorry for all the questions but I'm not as knowledgeable with these cars as i am with the 124's. Thanks in advance.

Check out www.mbcoupes.com. You can get a lot of links from that.

As an pseudo-AMG expert, you need to (1) check the door jamb for the "Imported By" sticker - note the name, (2) look for AMG stickers under the hood (top radiator crossmember and valve covers), (3) look for white coil suspension springs, and (4) take a bunch of photos and post them in the w126 section of www.BenzWorld.com. If you don't want to post the pics, email them to me and I'll tell you what I can see.

Experience is the best way to determine a real AMG, but since you don't have any, you need to ask help from those who do know.

You are most likely referring to the silver WB currently on offer in SoCal. If so, that WB is riddled with incomplete documents, missing door jam import sticker, only vin id is found on the radiator support, out of state/country registration, expired registration, and suffers from many recent years of sun soaked neglect Japanese Import.

There is no registry that details authenticity.
