I am trying to find information concerning whether 16" steel wheels can be mounted on a 1997 C36 AMG, to use with snow tires. I spoke briefly to a parts manager at a M-B dealership and he seemed to think that there were some steel wheels for the C43 AMG that would work. He gave me the part # of:
210 400 02 02, can anyone confirm this info for me??? and if not any suggestion as to what to for snow tires 16" or 17" ??? Thanks for the help....

With the 600SL brakes up front, a 16" wheel is not going to clear the caliper. I had a 95 C36 and tried 16" wheels with no luck. I ended up going with 18" wheels and using the stock 17" wheels for snow.

if an sl600/600sl has 16x8 wheels stock, then how can they not clear the calipers if the brakes are the same?
I think you should get a hold of luke @ tirerack and talk to him about it, He should be able to help you find the right size and for a good price too. Alon

We only have 1 16" wheel with enough brake clearance to work on the C36. It is the Mille Miglia Spier which sells for $134.00 per wheel. Give me a call if you need a set of these.
Thansk, Luke

FWIW, to clear the large calipers of the 600SL/SL600, it's not just offset & diameter, but the wheel's hub-pad length as well.
Unfortunately, wheel hub-pad length is more dependent on the wheel's design, rather then it's diameter or offset. :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG w/500E brakes finding 17x7.5 wheels with enough back-pad length to clear 500E calipers was a pain. Went with factory Mercedes wheels. |

Its not just the rotor, its the caliper... Anyone who has had the front wheel off their C36 knows what I"m talking about with the big AMG stamped caliper...
Go with Luke's 16 package, or the 17" direct tire swap... Hope this helps, Lee |
