Warm Body Cold Feet

84 300DT: ALL the functions on my ACC appear to be in order (I get cold when I want cold and heat when I want heat) with the exception of the LEGROOM FLAPS will not open. I have referenced Section 83-600 to 83-603 of the Shop Manual but cannot find a “Troubleshooting Guide” to isolate the problem. Has anyone been there and done that?

Thanks for your help!

In my 82 300D I have found the only way to get air flowing to the leg area is to use the bi-level mode. Did you try that?

The Legroom Flaps will not open or close at any temp/button/blower setting. Following the thread:

Defrost Vent always open- How I fixed it.[/URL]

I have changed the Switchover Valve for the Legroom flaps but that did not fix it. I am now out of pocket for the cost of the part that is not returnable.

I had the same problem in my 1985 300D. It was caused by both a plugged vacuum line to the floor vent flap actuator AND a bad switchover valve. So....have you checked the integrity of the vacuum line itself?

84W123DT's Believe It or Not!

All is functioning well now!!

All I can think of is when I re and re the Switchover Valve (OLD part to NEW part) for the Legroom Flaps, which did not fix the problem, and re and re back again (NEW part to OLD part) and tap, tap, tap the other switchover valves, bend, disconnect and reconnect the vacuum lines for the Defrost and Legroom flaps it started working as it should. Though this may be a temporary fix and a part is soon to fail, I am going to leave it alone for awhile until I get "cold feet" again.

Wes Bender, sorry to disappoint you, LOL.

Dan, I think you're right. I'm glad that it is not the ACC control unit ($$$).

Thumbs up

With the use of a MityVac, I found the problem to be a leaking vacuum element for the legroom flaps. I replaced it and all is well.

I also found out that the new switchover valve that I purchased from the dealer is a non-returnable item. So I' m stuck with it! It's another item to keep in my spare parts drawer!!
