You might get a better response from the Audio forum.

Here is the setup in my 86 560sl done by previous owner.
Alpine Headunit
2x50 watt amp in trunk to power rear speakers.
This is the weird part he mounted it to an oven rack.
I will eventually either replace the amp or mount it better.
Rear speakers 6x9 MB Quartz mounted in rear deck.
Looks like he had tried to mount them over the wheel
well bumps with no luck. It looks like there was not enough depth.
Maybe that was done by his previous owner. He left the speaker covers in place and I can see the wheel wells through them and hear when the tires throw rocks at the wheel wells.
When I got the car the front speakers were blown.
Replaced speakers with Pioneer 4" in stock location.
From the front I get good low mid to highs.
I get good bass with the rear speakers in this location but the mid/highs are lacking. I am considering building a box that would raise the speakers and angle them to the front. Perhaps even a sub box with a seperate mid/high box on top angled towards the front.

Sounds good with the Hardtop on but with the top off it is pretty flat from the rear speakers.

One thing to consider when thinking about speaker placement.
Mid to Highs are very directional Bass is not.

With the limited space in the sl and the seat position it is going to be hard to
get a well balanced system.

Maybe you can get some ideas at your tailgate party.

To answer your temperature question. If you are not in the red zone you are not hurting your engine. While moving you should be around 80 this will climb to 100 when you stop because of the reduced air flow. If you are going way over 100 when stopped your aux. fan is not kicking in. I did run my previous car into the red zone many times before I got the fan fixed.
I owned that car for 3 years after that with no heat related problems.
It was an 85 500sel with 160000 miles when I sold it.
This is from my experiece with 2 different V8 MB in Florida.

Hope this helps,
Gary
