From what I've read, the board with carpet was standard and the jump seat was a dealer or aftermarket option. The jump seats are still available new today.

Yeah the original storage area behind the seats was carpet and a hard board/wood material. You can get a seat for back there, suitable for small peoples only, there are even provisions from the factory (under the trim) to install a pair of seatbelts.

jump seat
i got the jump seat, it was aftermarket, and looks good. i had the carpeted back piece in there, but someone had cut holes in it for speakers, so it didnt look good. the aftermarket seat came with seat bealts, and mathes the color of the seats real good. there are holes already in the car that the seat belts bolted into, so i guess the back seat was something they had in mind. on a down side, the back seat makes the car look finished inside, but i dont think anyone but a midget, or a little kid could really sit in it, there is no leg room at all, and the area in back is very confined my daughter sat in it for a short trip once (with the top down) and had to put her feet up on the other half of the seat.

reas seat 107
HI
My Euro (UK) '88 300SL had a rear seat "factory fitted". It's a fully matched upholstered seat and back rest though a little "firm" and folds down when not required to give the standard carpet load area. I find that with my wife driving ( she's only 5'2") the rear seat is fine for smaller people - with the front passenger seat forward a bit as well it's a reasonable 2 + 2 - never a full 4 seater. The problem I have is that the rear seat belts are only "lap type" belts (2 point fixing) not "lap and shoulder" (three point fixing). Has anyone out there retro-fitted 3 point belts on a 107? as I would feel safer with youngsters in the back. Cheers Jim

I'm in the same boat. The kids want to ride back there so badly. I'm thinking something like this might work.

I've seen several "four point" kits that turn lap belts into four points. The questions are:
1 - Would a top of the seat mount fit and be safe? 2 - Rather than mounting to the top of the seat, would mounting an eyebolt behind and below theseat work and where would it fit so it wouldn't mess up the soft top? This is a random picuture from the Internet that shows the factory kinderseat:
