500SL Heater blower motor removal?
New to forum. I have a 1991 500sl. It sounds like the blower motor threw a cage. AAnyone have any diagrams or can give me details on how to get to it to remove it? This my first Benz. I thought it was a good deal for $8000.00
No real HA's yet. Any help would be appreciated. |

Use the forum search feature. There's lots of previous info on the blower motor, it's typical failures, and advice on replacing it.

The blower motor is located under the hood at the base of the windshield under a large plastic cover held in place with two screws and several spring clips. There's a piece of weatherstripping you'll have to remove as well.
Under that cover you'll find the long rectangular charcoal cabin filter which lifts straight up. Under the filter is the blower motor. The blower motor is held in place by a metal strip that runs down it's center and "snaps" onto a plastic "bead". This has a way of "unsnapping" itself and sounding like something is stuck in the fan. Frequently you can just push it back down hard with a long screwdriver or other such thing and it will "snap" back into place, resolving the problem. Good luck !
