500sl
Hi
This definitely seems to be the same as a UK spec car - according to the sales glossy for the "facelift" 107 the black spoiler was factory fitted for the UK market on the 500sl (It's the same as my 300SL which was an option) the battery is in the engine compartment and the UK model never had an Airbag. The wheels, Euro bumbers, lights and spec seem to be standard facelift version for a UK 500SL. As both the UK and Japan drive on the correct side ( sorry guys) of the road ( Right hand drive cars) it may be that MB shipped similar cars to both countries. UK models didn't have CAT's fiitted on the 107 at all but obvoiusly imports would have - though Japan has been "hot" on emissions since the 80-'s. Could it have been a demostrator for a MB export dealer as it would be about the launch date of the facelift models of all types ( 500SL or 560SL). Cheers Jim

For US-cars classic MB I email Paul Heule from Classic Cars USA and he immediately sends the data that belongs to the VINnumber. You also can ask what date the car was first on the road etc.
Here is his emailaddress: Paul.Heule@mbusa.com. |

Looks like a 1986 or newer 500SL. My 1985 has a different front air spoiler. Nice car, by the way. My battery is located under the hood, but I've seen some in the trunk located under the side pouches.

Here's a photo of an old 380SL I helped a friend of my grandmother's sell.
