Air Flow Sensor/Air Guide Pipe

I removed the air flow sensor/intake pipe housing as a unit today. The air intake housing is aluminum just like the air flow sensor. I want to seperate the two pieces to clean up all the varnish/grime from years of operation. The EPC shows no gasket between the two. It does show sealant 20G being used to seal the mating surfaces.

The pieces are really stuck together tight, and I can't seem to separate them. Thought about using a chisel to wedge them apart, but that metal is pretty soft and I would probably end up gouging it.

How can I separate the two without damaging them? What kind of sealant shoud I use if and when I get to that point?

What is this piece(s) you are referring to? Is it the inside air temperature sensor that is fitted to the top of the dash, an intake air duct in the engine bay, or something for the heater/AC intake under the dash?

Fuel injection, not CC.
