Head rest removal ??

I would like to put seat belt clips on the head rest posts on my 89 560 SL
I need to remove the head rests and insert the posts into the clips I got from Performance Products. I can get the rest extended several inches above the seat back, but cannot get them completely off the seats. Is there a release or catch to removing them??

On an E-class I had about that vintage, there was a button about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom of the seat 'hidden' under the upholstery. You had to feel for it. I can't remember which side it was on. Maybe if you can find an online Owner's manual if you don't have the paper one.
