climate control nightmare
Hi I'm new to posting but have been reading many other posts to fix my climate control.
'83 380sl - bought last year (garage kept very clean). At that time climate control worked - about a month later the blower stopped coming on unless I "jump started" it by pushing 'defrost' first . After that it would come on about twenty minutes into a drive - now not at all. A/C pump not coming on either (originally it would go on and off several times upon starting of car - even with heat on detent!!) I have power at fuse #7 with ignition on. Checked the 'cold lock out' Took out blower motor hit it with 12v - works fine Replaced blower regulator with an ebay "used but working" one(behind glove box) Replaced climate control regulator also (behind glove box) Checked for voltage at Heater aux pump -- has no voltage Climate control switch unit is very clean (all solder joints good - no burned trace (from shorted aux pump) switches work all vacuum and vents (except fresh air flaps)might be a single switchover valve Heat is always leaking into vents all the time never heard the Aux fan on either (By radiator -- I notice it's on the same fuse?) Am I missing something here - is there another fuse or relay that I don't know about/?? Any help would be appreciated - I can offer help also billmixer |

on my 84 , I had a similar issue, I traced it to a bad temp interlock sensor ( this is on my diesel) perhaps yours has a similar sender, Basically tells the ACC that the engine is to temp and tells it to come on. I actually put a new one in and thought that not the issue until i checked the temp rating and it was wrong!
The other issue may be your ignition switch, where the key goes in, have you tried jiggling it to see if that allows the ACC to come on? Now on my 72 SL my Aux fan was aways on so I traced that to another bad sender, now it stays off unless it is really hot I suspect your issues are all related

The compressor clutch is powered by a relay. I believe on your model that it needs ground from the push-button unit to engage the clutch.
You might also have low freon. Does the compressor come on if you jump the contacts for the switch on the drier bottle? I would suggest that you get the schematic for the system and make sure that the push-button unit is sending power to the blower and temp relays. This problem sounds to me like the push-button unit is TU, though.

I'll check it out and in few weeks try a rebuilt push button unit
Thanks Looking into that 'dryer bottle' issue - need to find it |

Fixed it
All problems were from a cold solder joint at relay 1 on pushbutton unit. This relay comes on with ignition but was not sending ground to rest of system. Everything works correctly now.
