Does anyone see a potential problem with this to anything ?

Just start the car up and take it for a nice long run. 6 months isn't that long of time to be overly concerned. The oil should be fine if it's less than a year old with few miles on it. If anything, fill it with some fresh gas and por in some injector cleaner.

The reason that you don't do this on an EZL or later 380 type ignition box is that there are integratef circuits in it that could be fried by high voltage finding another (very low resistance) path to ground other than the spark plug. Considering how expensive the later units are, the only "safe" way I see to do this is to disconnect the crank trigger and power to the EZL on the 560 or the distributor trigger to the box on the older units.

That's the wire I was talking about. I do agree that it's not the end of the world to just start it, let it warm up, and drive it.

Thank you Strife, this is too confusing for me.....I think I will just crank her up and trust no harm will be done. Thanks again.

Thank you ChuckT, Your suggestion is welcome and uncomplicated and think that is what I will be doing. I appreciate your response, again thanks.

Read the posts and I want to ask, I am starting my 88 560SL after sitting for 6 years!!!, I know but that's another story
Changed all fluids and filters. Oil, tranny, brake, gas, radiator and power steering.
Mercedes Mechanic recommended rotating the engine with the coil lead disconnected until I had oil pressure. With plugs removed to reduce the starter load. I will ask about grounding the lead. I may also disconnect the fuel pump leads as suggested.

Any other recommendations for a car that has been sitting for six years? It was in the garage, and protected.

Dave

From my motorcycling days, I got the habit of pulling the plugs and shooting a few squirts of oil into the cylinders before the spring startup after the winter storage. Some advocate spraying in some PB Blaster or equivalent for longer sitting engines and waiting a day and repeating, in order to free up possibly stuck rings. Doing both may not be inadvisable, just to make sure.

I'm a technician, paranoia is a survival tactic.
