My Sl is running like it should with no problems what so ever. I have done a search within this Forum and got lost in a sea of to many answers that don't pertain to my situation. Again, My Sweet 500 SL is running great, situation is that those three idiot light are always on and they won't go away. Did 1992 R129 have base module? My 1991 has OVP relay and fuse. I thought base module came in later years with OBD2.

Good catch, you might be right on that, at any rate look under the cover near the right side hood hinge.

Three Dash Lights Still on ?
Phil Here. Well regarding my dash light situation, I took my Sweet SL to my Indy. to check out the ABS,ASR and Roll Bar dash light being constantly on while the car is running. He checks it out and he takes it to another Indy friend of his and they both scratch there heads and can not diagnose the problem. The Indy's state that only the Stealership would have the ability and tools to cancel the problem of the "stay on lights". It is a lack of tool problem with the older SL's, they say it's easier to diagnose the newer Mercedes. There was no charge for the two days at there shop.
Now I am never going to the Dealer for any work on my sweet SL. So I am asking again for the kindness of strangers on this Forum for some more help on my problem? This morning after a two day sit, I started the SL up in the garage and low and behold there were no lights constantly on at the dash, I let the Sl. Run for awhile as I always do, than clear it's through with a tap of the gas. as soon as I put my foot on the BRAKE and put in Reverse [Crapola] the ABS,ASR,Roll Bar lights came on again. What is going on??? I have read many posts on the subject but none specific to my situation. I don't mind spending some money on this problem like replacing some part items that might be causing the lights to stay on. Remember that my SL. Shifts,Stops, and Runs fine, Everything works as it should............ Please help, Thanks in advance 1992 Sweet 500 SL Phil Justice |

Have you checked the fuse on the OVP relay? Does the roll bar go up and down manually ( with the switch )?

3 Light problem
Tech Boy, Yes, Roll Bar works fine with the switch, 10 amp fuse on OVP relay is good.
I just got in from my garage and found out that my Brake lights are not working at this time, Now I can't drive my Sweet SL. without Brake Lights. |

Al's Well In Sweet SL Land
Phil Here. Hey guys, I have solved my three dash light problem that even two Indy's in town could not!
After reading many posts on the subject, I narrowed it down to 2 possibilities, the brake light switch and the crappola 27 aluminum fuses. Two nights ago I twisted all the fuses in there sockets and low and behold the 3 dash lights went out.......... I purchased the best Oem. Brake switch[21.00 ] and a Copper fuse kit [7.00 ] on EBay. I marched down to my embarrassed Indy.[ who could not diagnosed the problem ] to have the switch and the fuses installed, He charged me 44.94 for the install. Al's well in SL Land. Thanks again to everybody here. I hope others will read this Post. 1992 Sweet 500 SL Merry Christmas Phil Justice |

Good report of your adventure. Finding the problem yourself is a real shot to the ego. In your mechanics' defense (sort of), I bet he's kicking himself for not thinking of the fuses himself. He sounds like a good guy, not a ripoff.
Live & learn.
