The new SL in person!!!

I just landed in John Wayne airport and lo and behold here comes the new SL! It was red with parchment and what an awesome looking car. It looks much better in person and in motion than in any pics I have seen in magazines. I thought they are not supposed to be on this side of the pond till next year, guess anything can and will happen in Southern CA. I should have paid attention to see who was driving but just way too busy stuffing my tongue back in my mouth that I missed looking at the driver. All I have to say is I WANT ONE!!!!!!

Do you know what the new ('03) SL500 retails for?

the NEW 2003 SL Launch Edition should be available by middle/end of March 2002. Only comes in one color (silver). The SL55 AMG should be available in the fall Retails has not been set yet, but probably will be approximately 5% higher than2002 model.

My dealer told me it retails for $89,000 depending on options for the SL500. I am sure it will be at least $20,000 higher than retail for the 2003 and 2004 models since most dealers have already sold out their alloted vehicles. Iwas told by my dealer, the earliest for me to get one will be 2005 if I put my $500 deposit down today, unless someone cancel their order.

I've been wondering if there is any plan for a 50th Anniversary edition and, if so, what it'll be like. I'm tempted to go see if I can find a dealer who wants to start a list for it and get on it. Maybe I'll be recovered from buying my '97 by then!

It'll be a "gold" anniversary; hope they don't think the cars have to be gold though. I'd go for black with some kind of a distinctive emblem or something...

Out at lunch about an hour ago and saw the new SL charging up the street.....must have been on a test drive (my office is about a mile from RBM of Atlanta).

Silver.......really sharp.....has great presence on the road!

On Saturday I happened to notice that Fletcher Jones received a truckload of the new SL's, so on Sunday I went to see my salesman. If you have seen my other post, you know I'm deciding between a CLK430 Cab or a MY98-99 SL500.

Well boys, if you have not seen the new SL up close you need to! This baby is for real...completely well thought out in all it's appointments. It feels like quality as well as looks sharp. The top is now an improved (over the SLK) hardtop with a large rearview glass window. This top is remote activated and when you want to go simply open the top, start the engine and the air conditioning or heated seats via remote. It has electronics which take keyless entry/exit to new heights using a transponder you carry so the SL "recognizes" you. Wow! This baby is nice!

Well, hate to say it SL guys, but I think it's a CLK430 for me until I can save enough pennies and one of these comes back on the pre-owned market in 3-4 years!
Price as equipped was a cool $97K, maybe in 3-4 years I can get a good specimen for 50-60K.....because I want this car!

When I was getting my oil changed today, the guy told me that I could chill and drink coffee or enjoy the host of Starmark'd MB's they have.

I'm not sure if these two were for sale, but they definitely caught my attention.
No. 1 The new SL 500.

I was like "WOW" It just looked amazing in person. It looks awesome in pictures and in real life it just looks a lot better. It made the CLK next to it look very tame in comparison. It's a compact car yet it looked magnificent, fierce, elegant and what not.

However, my attention was divided to the 1963 600 Limo that they had there. The tires are HUGE!!! 235/75/15. Never thought I'd see such tires on a car.... The car itself made the new S500L look small!

My friends father just picked up the new SL yesterday. i got a chance to look at the window sticker... the only option that he got was something called the "LAUNCH MODEL" which comes with special edition color, and leather. It was about a 9k option. With this option, and tax, I think the sticker said it was about 108k. It also has what looked like the AMG wheels. I haven't gotten a look at it, but i will this week. Hopefully I'll get a ride because it looks like we're going to be in for some nice weather today.
I'll tell you guys what I think.

Is the new SL available without the Launch Edition "option"?

I saw a launch edition and a regular model today. The car is really fantasic. These cars will be readily available sooner than you think.I predict that in about 4 months, you will be able to buy one for sticker.

Hi guys,

Yeserday I saw 2 brand spanking new 2003 500SL in the Richmond dealership. A black one in the showroom and a white one in the service, probably getting PDI.

They are quite a bit larger than W129 and even looks better than in the magazines.
