Mechanical to Electronic Fuel Injection?

Greetings! New to the forum... just got a 1977 450SL and I have a couple of questions. First, how hard is it to switch from the mechanical fuel distribution system that my car has to a little newer electronic fuel injection system that came on the later models? Has anyone done this and is it worth while??
Thanks for your help and look forward to learning a lot from you guys!!!!
Thanks,
Mike

I believe my "88 has the upgraded mechanical Bosch CIS-E system, so how new were you planning to go? Only benefit to the "E" CIS is the closed loop monitoring system with the frequency value that gives a little more precise control to the fuel and emissions. I would not mess with it if it is working. The K-Jetronic (CIS) system was one of the best ever made. Simple, reliable and ran well. Porsche had it on the 911 when they went to a turbo. Basically they didn't do mcuh more than bolt on the turbo since the fuel system is so forgiving and flexible. Just keep the injectors in good shape and it will run for a long time.

Or are you suggesting a "backward" updating from CIS (mechanical) to EFI (electronic) as the early 107 SL's had ('72-75?)?
