1991 300SL M-Benz Side Mirror Triangles!

anyone out there knows how to remove the leather triangles on the side mirrors? please HELP! zee

There are two, maybe three plastic prones behind the cover which go into the metal. You can pry it open using a small screw driver, but please be careful as those plastic prones may break.

If you call Crutchfield on the phone and tell them you are considering buying new speakers for your 300SL, they will mail or fax you step by step instucrtions on how to dis-assemble and re-assemble the doors. Including pictures. It's not particularly intuitive and there are hidden screws. Tod

MB took the philosophy of "hook" designed plastic fasteners...which means that 99% of the time, disassembly of an interior component requires removal by lifting up, THEN out!

If you take the GM approach and just start prying outward, you will permanently damage the piece you are trying to remove.

So always gently coax the piece upwards, then proceed to pull outward.

The triangle piece on my W124 is held in place with 3M sticky tape...as a result of not following the above mantra...
