Outside door lock lights stay on
Noticed this evening that I could not open the doors with my remote (The little light in the remote still flashes, so I suspect the batteries may not quite be flat. I am not sure whether this is relevant. It has been a bit irregular of late.) and I opened with the key, got in, drove home. Arriving home, I noticed that the little green light was still on (not flashing). When I lock the car with the key, the red light then stays on, no flashing. The manual says nothing about this condition. Any ideas?

Well Momo, at the moment you, me and Boatjockey all have the same problem.
(Thanks for the email Boat /Thanks for your comments Eli) I've had the problem since I got the car. Sometimes none of the locks will open with the remote and only one lock will work with the key. First time it happened was when the lock lights stayed on and went downhill from there. My car is going in for a number of minor matters in two weeks or when I get my new rims. I'll post any details though I too suspect its a sensor. Changed the batteries in one remote but it didn't help. |

Returns from time to time
This problem still returns from time to time. Naturally, when I went to the garage, it refused to happen. No idea what to look at.

Momo, once it started it kept happening for me. Haven't taken the car in yet as I'm waiting for new rims so I can get a number of things done at one time.

The R129 Diagnostic Manual says nothing about the lights remaining on. So, the only thing I would be able to think to try is to get check for codes from socket #12 of the diagnostic connector. If you get the codes, I can look-up their meanings for you.

Problem went away but has come back
Just as I come up to my 60k km/36k mile service, the problem has come back. Not all the time. As it also happens when using the non-remote key, this is probably nothing to do with the remote. An old thread suggested that this may be indicating something to do with the alarm system. I now have another theory. This started to happen about the same time a leak started in the air line to the orthopedic seats. My new theory is that this leak is preventing something registering as closed that depends on full air pressure. Anyway, I'll get the dealer to fix the seat and see what happens.

Momo....its probably a sensor, mine still has the issues I noted above. Haven't dealt with it yet as its an annoyance rather than problem.

Logic?
Just checking the logic. If using the non-remote key, the problem still occurs, how can it be a sensor issue? (My wife does not have a remote key, and it has happened to her a couple of times.)

Since the lights light up with the master (non-remote) key then I would assume the sensor sends to and receives info from the lock. The sensor is likely part of the security system.
My master key won't work quite often so its beyond a lock issue. |

Hi Guys, I had a similar problem on my 1990 SL. My LEDS stopped working all together after removing my battery. Then all of a sudden the passenger door red LED started to work on its' own! Interestingly the remote locking will still work although the LEDs do not come on, however the alarm will not be armed.
I took the car to a Mercedes dealer who told me I needed new receivers on both doors and boot. Around £350 in parts and labour on top.(around £500). I declined due to the cost. I then took the car to a non franchised dealer who unplugged the alarm module and then replugged it in. It now works perfectly. The alarm module is located above the battery in the boot. I suspect that I may have knocked the connector when I removed the battery. It may be an idea to check this plug.It may save you a lot of money Regards Arfan |

Tried...
Tried this. No effect, as far as I can see, though my symptoms are different. Anyway, the car is in for a service today. I'll see what they say. (I gave them an overall budget, and there are a couple of other items that need fixing too.)

Better
Hmm,
The dealer disconnedted "everything", cleaned the connectors, then reconnected everything. Seems to work. Since my fault is intermittent, it is hard to know. However, the passenger-side sensor is definitely not working, which may be the underlying cause. Momo

Thanks for the update. I think it's great that people update the group even though the original post maybe some while ago, it helps everyone in the long run I've been following this thread too, not because I have a problem at the mo (excuse the pun), but because I've noticed a couple on here with similar - there's nothing better than being prepared! Look forward to a further update, if you ever resolve this one. Cheers Lea
