Is here a simple way to display/read faults/codes on my 89 300 sel without going to the dealer?

There should be a small black box on the rt side of the engine compartment with a cover on it. Remove the cover and there should be several pin connections with numbers on them.
There should also be a small button. If the button is deprssed for 3 sec then released this should make a red light flash out the codes that are either current or stored for the injection system.

That is valid for California version only! Federal versions weren't equipted with that diagnostic feature.
