unusual front oil leak on M103
Hi everybody
My 300TE leaks some oil and I do not really know where exactly. The oil is found on the pan, transmission oil cooler hose, tandem pump, mainly lower front parts. It is engine oil, no transmisson or hydraulic oil. The timing chain cover has been resealed recently and it is still perfectly dry. Head gasket has been done about 40'000 miles ago. Could it be the front main seal? Any ideas? Any input is highly appreciated, Bruno _ 300TE 1992 140'000 miles |

Possibly the front main, my blind guess is the head gasket, the only way is to clean off the engine and run it and get a bright light and look for the leak, if not you have to get the flourcent dye and a black light and look for it that way, those leaks have a pesky way about themselves and are hard to locate, just remember gravity, if you see oil and it's dry above the leak do not look for the leak above the trail.

Check your oil level sending unit on the side of the oil pan. The old 190e was also having a similar problem. It turned out to be a brittle O-ring on the sending unit. Less than a dollar and twenty minutes of time.
