Remove Under Dash Panel?? Help
Have to replace my stop light switch, but of course have to remove the drives under dash panel (knee bolster) to get to it. Removed the single screw in the rear I found and the nut under the carpet but is still fastened somehow to the dash. Hate doing things for the foirst time...........
Thanks; Don, 1993 190E 2.6 |

Are you trying to remove the entire under dash panel or just the black plastic part over the pedals?
I'm not familiar with the W201, but I'd bet its similar to the W124, were the black plastic is clipped to the dash lower panel and held to the floor with some plastic screw on thingys. There are two retainers -- one under the carpet and one up above the gas pedal on the W124. Once those are out, the panel reluctanly comes down at the firewall and forward at the top rear edge until you can bend it enough to clear the kick panel/footrest. Big wrestling job, it fits pretty tight. Peter

Don,
there are (3?) screws hidden behind the plastic trim pieces that seperate the main part of the dash from the knee bolster. The trim pieces snap into and out of place. if you have the "dashboard removal tool" use that, if not you could make your own out of a clothes hanger. I haven't done it for a while, but that *should* be all that's holding the panel on besides what you've already found. If you need to remove the knee bolster as well, there are two bolts holding it in place. You can access them through the knee bolster itself with a socket extension drive.
