124 Mono Wiper parking high
The wiper on my '93 300e has recently began to park higher and higher on my windshield as I turn it off. I've had no work done to it that may have caused this to suddenly start happening. When it is turned back on, the wiper does complete its downward sweep and works fine otherwise. Anyone have an idea on what causes this and how it can be fixed?

I don't have a real fix for you, but I've noticed that if you turn the wiper off early in the wipe cycle, it tends to return to the correct position. If I wait until the last minute to turn the wiper off, it tends to park high as you describe.
Good luck, Mika |

Thanks, tried that, but continues to park higher and higher on the windshield (now at about 60 degrees from horizontal). No one else has had this problem?

vertical wiper blade He has given instructions as to how to re-align the wiper blade's parked position...you can extrapolate from it to solve your problem...

Thanks for that link... finally "warm" enough to tackle (if only I kept my garage clear, sigh). While the images there were for a different car, it was very helpful.
Key difference was one-piece rubber windshield trim and one piece intake vent. The intake vent on my '93 300E is a one piece unit with 3 different vents... I thought from comments in other threads that they pop out (they don't). The center unit is hooked into the adjacent drains, with screws under the aforementioned rubber windshield trim holding them in place. Once you get to the wiper linkage and motor, the fix is easy. The cause appeared to be a stripped out linkage, as well as the drive wheel for the motor. I chose to replace the motor with a used one with good teeth and all is well. I also lubed up the transmission assembly which seemed to improve the overall speed of the wiper system. |
