190E Shuts off

I have a 1989 2.6L 190E. I start it, and about 2 or 3 seconds later it shuts right back off. No tach operation, and the check engine light is on. I have found problems like this in the forums, but no real answers as to what it most likely is.... I have checked all fuses, everything is good, and it runs fine until it shuts off with the exception of the tach not working. PLEASE somebody help me with this one, I am at my wits end with this car. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, help me out!
