S500 and Air Filter(s) Part Number?
![]() I read a lot of threads on the K&N and the MAF failures. Doesn't sound like a good idea going with the K&N. Well, OK, then who else besides the dealer has the OEM filters for a 1998 S500? I checked above in the "order parts", but there is no listing... Anyone know what the OEM part number is for a 1998 S500 5.0l V8 air filter? ![]() Now that I have read all the threads on K&N and MAF failures, I think I will take the K&N out of my 1998 Navigator! Toughts? Thanks Bobb

Bobb, just call Phil at Fastlane (sponsors this site, their link is up on the top of the page). He'll get you the right filter set, probably give you your choice of brands (including OEM), and give you a good price... on top of that, you'll get 'em quick.

Thanks all for the replies.
After reading some threads and talking to some friend mechanics, I have decided to go with the OEM filters. Granted, many of the MAF failures and K&N filters is due to operator error and over oiling, the cost of the filters and recharge kit, will allow me to purchase several new OEM filters and maybe save me $500 on a MAF if I screw it up! I don’t put enough miles on the vehicle to make the investment worth while. Running Synthetic oil leaves me plenty of time between service calls and if I spend $25 for filters every 10K miles, this is better than chancing a MAF at $500. I pulled the K&N out of my navigator tonight with only about 8K miles on it and it was filthy, a bit dry and in need of a recharge. I’m doing a little experiment between the OEM paper filter and the K&N. I will be taking a few long trips this fall and will document the performance and gas mileage compared to the last year with the K&N. I’m getting lazier in my older years now, and less likely to maintain my vehicles every 2K miles as I have always done, but since the advent of synthetic oil and all, I think I will relax and do as the book tells me! I found a great WEB site for parts, cheaper than my local NAPA dealer too!http://www.discountautoparts.com WIX or AC Delco. I must say, I have been real pleased with all WIX/NAPA filters and will continue to use them. There are a lot of gimmicks out there and a new one every week, but there is no better substitute than a good old fashioned quality filter and clean oil! Thanks again for all the replies BOBB
