SRS light

Recently I had an accident in my '97 C280. After the damage was repaired, they told me the SRS light was on and it needed to be fixed. The insurance company says it's not part of the damage and won't pay for it.Mainly because the air bag did not deploy. I disagree because it wasn't damaged or coming on prior to the accident. Can anyone help?
