my car has been sitting awhile...

Howdy, folks.

I own 2 cars, one an '89 300E (runs great), one an '87 300E (runs not so great).

Actually, the '87 has been sitting for about 2 years. It needs an engine compartment wiring harness, and we have just not been able to afford the expense. I can now afford the harness, but I have no idea what else is necessary to get the car running again, nor how much it would cost. I assume the gasoline, at least, would have to be drained.

Any help is appreciated.

Jimmy

Even on 2 year old gas, it should run, I have run on much older myself...

But it would still be a good idea to drain it and get fresh gas. as for other stuff, maybe squirt some oil/wd-40 down in each cylinder and crank it over a few times just in case. anything else, you're just going to have to see if it runs and go from there.

Whats wrong with the engine harness? it's tied into the body harness and is not so easy to replace....

The harness wires are pretty much without insulation in certain areas, mainly around the passenger-side quarter panel, nearest the battery and "computer brain" area. Wires poking through the insulation and such. It caused major shorts, both wire to wire, and wire to ground, producing, amongst other things, a dead battery, over and over again.

I thought I could easily just unplug the engine compartment harness from the firewall and reinstall a fresh one from there. I hope I am not wrong....

Thanks so much for your help.

Jimmy
