$2000 to replace crankshaft

the 1984 300d i purchased last week has a fractured crankshaft. the guy ballparked $1880 before taxes. that's with a used part. does this seem reasonable?

First post this in the diesel forum their are a lot of guys overtheir who have rebuilt 617's. Second I have never heard of a 617 breaking a crankshaft? What caused this and how did you determine the crank is broken? Maybe a main bearing was starved for oil and seized? You can get a used engine for a lot less that is probably the way to go.
