Poor Fuel Economy?

I have recieved email from other owners that claim 28 mpg cruising at 80 mph. I just went from Raleigh NC to Richmond Va 180 miles ea way running 75 - 80 most of the way. I only average 23 - 24. Just putting around town it goes up to 25 - 26. What sort of things should I check?
