86 190E Cold Start Valve
My 190E will crank but not turn over.I have replaced the sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, distributor, fuelpump. The battery is charged but engine will not turnover.
Any ideas ? Read about the Cold Start Valve, how do you check or test it if it's ok ? Last edited by littlegirl; 10-23-2004 at 02:49 PM. |

Lots of things to check before buying parts. Engines need compression, fuel/air mixture & spark at the right time to start & run.
You mentioned you replaced lots of goodies, but not if you have sparks. Pull the coil wire off the distributor & hold it near an engine ground while someone cranks the engine for you. You replaced the fuel pump, but did you check if there was fuel pressure before spending the $? or whether you have fuel pressure now? Pull a spark plug & have someone crank the engine while you put a thumb over the spark plug hole for a crude compression check. Look at the plug while it's out. See if it has unburned fuel on it. If you've got compression & spark, try a (very) little ether (starting fluid). Spend time checking things before spending dollars replacing things that you don't know are bad or not. Let us know how you're doing.

Thanks a MIllion
For $2. my baby's running again. I guess it just wet and the Ether in the "Hot Start" dryed it out so I could start the engine.
Thanks, |
