check engine light, what's next?

hi guys.
i am new to this forum, but have been posting at other forums.
i have searched in other forums and posted my problems.
i am posting here to get more feedbacks and advices.
my check engine light came on yesterday. then the car suddenly felt sluggish and seemed hestitating on acceleration. i would like to know what could be the problem, as i have replaced my maf and ovp about a month ago.
i have been reading in other forums that oxygen sensors may need replacing too.
also, i may have to get my own obd scan tool. any particular brand i should get? i want the most user friendly available and possibly the cheapest.
thanks for you help.

first off welcome to the forum :-)

check engine light is usually associated with something gone or messed up with the emissions controls

i don't have a c-class myself but i would suggest you do a search on how u could pull the engine codes off ur car and from those post i'm sure you'd also find what codes ur car are displaying

i recently got the check engine light on my 94 E320 and got a few codes like O2 sensor, upshift relay, & inoperable EGR valve....changed the O2 sensor and reset the diagnostic comp.....that alone cured the other check engine light codes

good luck and enjoy ur stay

Reny

thanks reny

have you ever used an obd scan tool?
guess i would be needing that if i want to find out what's wrong without taking it to the dealer.

What year is your C280?

1994-1997 models have a straight 6.

1998-2000 modles have a V6, and have OBD-II.
