What MPG is expected 1980 450SL?

Did a search, but no info! While I've only just started to drive this car, Just got it a couple of weeks ago and for starters it is in need for new cap and wires. I just put new plugs in, the old plugs must have been in there 10 years and very hard to unscrew! I know I've got lots more to do, but I have no idea what should be expected for fuel economy?

The odometer is not working so it's nearly impossible to measure, but on my first drive, It burned about 14 gallons over a 125 trip to get it home from where I bought it and that was mostly hi-way! The spark plug's electrode's had an 1/8" gap so that plus the need for new cap, wires etc. will account for poor MPG!

The car by the way, was the most neglected as far as maintenance go' as I've ever seen! The previous owners drove the car allowing all four brake pads to go to dust and continued to drive until the front calipers wore most of the disc's off!

Another issue is the front end suspension. When I turn the wheel far left and back up it feels as though the right front wheel and suspension is coming off the car! A visual inspection, lower control arm etc, and test for tie rods only showed one tie rod marginally worn! Haven't checked the ball joints yet.

Any info and help will be greatly apprieciated.........BB

Mileage wise the car should get from 12-15 MPG

For the very first time I have driven my 1991 560 SEL from full fuel to reserve light coming on all on the road. I got 330 mile for 20.5 gallon of 91 grade gas. Since it is mostly city traffic, I am feeling pretty good.
