Question Ol' Smokey

Hey all...

Cant find this exact phenom discussed in the threads:

My 300E blows brown smoke out the tail when I put the hammer down...especially if in driveshifter 3, so I guess the revs are spiking at such times. (I use 3 in town cause the top gear doesnt respond too well in traffic, and sometimes forget to shift into D after entering a highway...this is usually the only time I see smoke)

Otherwise, no (noticeable) smoke, at least that I can see. It's pretty obvious when it's happening, but back off the hard accel, or up-shift to D and it immediately disappears. I DO have to top up oil in this thing, a ltr per 2000 km or so, but there's no smoke usually, and the emissions test is A-OK.

Is this a valve seal and/or guide thing?

I'd begin by using a heavier oil such as 15/50 synthetic.
