Code 20: Vehicle Speed Signal Not Present
1994 E320 Wagon. CE light went on. Checked codes per previous posts. Got only code 20. Cleared code. CE light went off.
What is the Vehicle Speed Signal? Does this have anything to do with the speedometer? Mine works. Does it relate to the Cruise control? Mine doesn't work. Thanks, Charlie |

Does your speedometer and odometer work? If they are not working the cruise control won't work, and you will get the code 20. If they are working there's something more complicated going on.

Yes, Speedometer and Odometer both Work
What else could it be?
BTW, Wiring haress is one month old. Do you think it could be worn out already? |

Pretty unlikely that the wiring harness has failed, but possible that there was some sort of installation issue. I would see if it comes back before devoting too much energy to it. If your speedo is getting the speed signal it is being properly originated and deliverered there but lost somewhere is the diagnostic system. You would really need to get your hands on a wiring diagram for your car to see where it is originated and where all it is routed.

You want to go to the EA/CC module to see what caused the code to get to the DM to trip the CE lamp.
Those codes are stored on pin #14 and accessible with a simple homemade led/sw tool... Archives or http://members.aol.com/ajdalton7/ledtool.jpg Last edited by Arthur Dalton; 11-07-2004 at 01:48 PM. |

Thanks, Arthur. I'll Make the Tool
The code came back. The car still drives well, but I would love to know what is going on. I don't really want to take it on the road for a long trip until the light goes out.
I'm a little short on time, is there an off the shelf tool I can buy that will allow me to check the various codes? Is there still some kind of Sears tool? BTW, for some reason your sketch comes out very faint. Thanks, Charles |
