'90 300 SEL Flex Disc
The front flex disk has about 30k miles on it. I'm working on the exhaust and naturally checking everything out while under there. If you grab the driveshart and rotate, there is rotational 'slop' in the disc. Everything appears okay - no cracks, breakage, etc. However, the flex disc bolts will rotate about 1/8 inch either way when checked manually like I'm doing. In other words, the slotted washer has some space in there before contacting the shoulder of the flex disc bolt holes. Is that movement in there normal?

I just did the 190e's flex disk and no that is not normal. There should not be any movement.
BTW, the driveshaft and flex disks etc movement is one of those sum of the parts: U-joints, flex disks etc including differential gear slop. Ideally all should be snug and not offer any axial movement. Older cars, from wear, do have some movement. In the case of the 190e it had reached a point where the drive train clunk was just too much. That is why I replaced it. Haasman

Thanks, haasman, I was afraid of that. At least I now have a lift which makes the job MUCH easier.
