'98 E320 fault codes P0170 & P0173-bank 1 & bank 2 fuel trim malfunction

These codes are set in conjunction with the check engine and check engine electronics lights on dash display. Car starts and runs fine however when warm, if I turn car off and immediately restart it, put it into drive and drive away, it bucks and kicks harshly for @ 5 seconds and then smooths out.
Any ideas as to the cause? The malfunction codes are for Bank one and bank two fuel trim malfunction.
Thanks for your input,
John

MAF...I guarentee it. You can do either two things....1. Try to clean it with some carb cleaner and let it dry. Put it back in and reset the code to see if it comes back or not. 2. If that doesn't work you should replace it. About $350 at the dealer. YOu can find them online for about $300. I got 2 new ones off of ebay for 100 bucks each and they worked perfectly. What ever you do, you should get it taken care of. Although you may not feel a difference in the car, you are burning 15+% more gas. You need part number: # A112 094 00 48

maf

try driving with the maf disconnected and see how it goes. the ME control module will substitute the maf signal with other values depending on several inputs from various sensors, if your performance is improved the maf will most likely be your problem. besure to replace the air filter and clean all the dirt and debris from the air box. let me know if you have other questions.

Carb cleaner can actually damage MAF sensors. Denatured alcohol will work just as well and is not harmful to the sensor.

Had the same 2 codes on my 2000 E320, picked up a Bosch MAF off E-Bay for $185 within the last 4 or 5 months. Dealer wanted $300+ for the part. CEL went off within a week after replacement.
