EHA Issue

I checked my EHA current today! I show negative or 0 and that is it! Mostly 0 then it will flicker the - symbol on my meter once in a while. Moved the throttle and no diference. All done with engine running. I did this because I have a rough idle and EHA is the last thing to check. I unplug it and I still get a rough idle but better. I unplug the OVP and it acts the same as if I unplug the EHA. IS my EHA bad or is the wiring bad? Would like to know as I am at a loss and I can not really find any good info in the search or on the Maint CD!

Well if what the EHA is doing means anything to one, it is the first thing to check. It establishes closed loop control and basic mixture setting.

An EHA current of zero means it is DEAD, doing nothing, zippo, kaput. Removing the OVP assures that it is dead, zippo, kaput. And when you pull the wire from the dead, zippo, kaput EHA, it will still be dead, zippo kaput.

MB designed the system such that a properly adjusted warm car will limp home just fine with the electronic control dead, zippo, kaput.

But it does change some what when I unplug the OVP or the EHA! Idle does change somewhat. I am just wondering if it is so out of spec that it causes the idle to be feelable!

What is your EHA current KOEO (key on engine off)? I'm not sure what car we are even talking about but 90% of them should read 20ma.

There is NO difference between a EHA unplugged and one that reads "0 or negative". You need a few milliamps to have any effect disconnecting the unit. Anything else is coincidence or wishfull thinking. If those are your numbers and you are really getting a running difference I'm guessing you meter isn't reading properly. That is the main reason for the KOEO test at 20ma.

Thank you sir I will check after the holiday. I think there was something wrong with the meter and trying to check Amperage. Maybe the internal fuse is popped. I will have to check that as well. Since I do actually have a diference between plugged and unplugged. I did clean the connectors while in there. Also found on the maint CD which wire goes to where on the CIS-E Controller as well so I will check that also. I took Monday off after the holiday to do some work on the car. Just little things I need to do. Oh and this is for the 1986 190E in my sig!
